Nalls Produce started in 1961, when a young Cary Nalls started selling veggies from his garden in Alexandria, Virginia. That wagon later became a tent, and Cary started adding plants and produce from local farmers. Today, Nalls continues to expand, but it remains the same independent and family owned store that it was 50 years ago. We are a year-round staple of our neighborhood - budding gardeners come to us in the spring for advice, foodies rely on our fresh produce CSA in the summer, kids frolic in our pumpkin patch in the fall, and families pick their perfect Christmas tree in the winter. Being small and independent allows us to support our community in numerous ways; like giving our excess produce to local food banks, donating decor and plants to local schools & charities, and sponsoring neighborhood fundraisers & activities. It also allows us flexibility to make all sorts of cool events happen - from free storytime events for local kids, to collaborating with a local bar to fill a 400 lb pumpkin keg, to hosting a massive block party for other local small businesses, to partnering with local restaurants for "farm-to-table" dinners. Nalls was once located on a dirt road, but today, our hometown of Alexandria Virginia is starting to look more and more like a large city. Despite creeping condo-ization, Nalls remains steadfast as a community hub, and a beacon of the simple life in a rapidly changing world. Cary Nalls is still out there every day working the forklift for the store he created. His daughter Valerie manages the store, and his grandchildren are already learning about the business. Everyone in our neighborhood knows and loves the Nalls family, and we hope you will too.
