In a world of big-box chains and franchises, local businesses stand out among the competition. Local businesses serve as the heartbeat of a city and help the local economy thrive. According to the American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA), “Each dollar you spend at an independent business returns three times more money to your local economy than one dollar spent at a national chain (and hundreds of times more than buying from an online mega-retailer) — a benefit we all can bank on”. Now there is a great way to celebrate and help promote your favorite local businesses through Independent We Stand’s “Independent Small Business Award” – The Indie Awards!
The Indie Awards recognizes independent businesses that make a significant impact in their community and go above and beyond for their customers. Take a look around your community; which local business stands out from the rest? Nominating a business for the 2015 Indie Awards is easy! Any locally-owned and operated business in the U.S. can enter or be entered into the contest. Anyone is eligible to nominate a business including business owners themselves.
This year, the winner of the Indie Awards will receive a prize package valued at $10,000. This prize pack includes: $ 5,000 cash, a $1,000 STIHL certificate, A “Small Business Web Starter Package” from independent web design firm- The Meridian Group, and a 3 day/2 night stay at an independent beach resort in Virginia Beach (trip valued at $1,000). Past Indie Award winners include: Mike’s Community Cup, Trio Hardware, Howard Brothers Hardware, and All Points Personal Transportation.
As soon as a business is nominated, votes can be placed. The sooner a business is nominated, the better their chances are to win. Nominations and Quarterfinalist voting runs from September 14 through November 15. Semifinalist voting begins November 23 to December 13. To recognize the winning Quarter and Semifinalists, they will receive Premium Memberships with Independent We Stand, for life. Finally, a winner will be chosen by a panel of judges and will be announced on December 16, 2015.
There are countless reasons to support small, locally owned businesses. Small businesses not only create jobs within the community, but they contribute positively to the local economy. The Indie Awards give communities the ability to celebrate the local businesses that make their town one-of-a-kind and unique.
