Summer Solstice Celebration
June 20, 2015
Kick off the official start of summer with a sidewalk sale, live music and more in this coastal Maine community. Rockland’s 17th annual summer solstice celebration will close down several blocks of downtown to make room for all the entertainment. There will be live music, local food and even a whoopie-pie eating contest. It’s a “street fair to celebrate the summer season.” More details are available from Rockland Main Street.
Celebrate the Summer Solstice
June 21, 2015
You don’t have to find yourself in Maine to have all the summer solstice fun. The Dickson Mounds Museum near Canton, Illinois, will host a solstice celebration of its own, and it starts at sunrise. At 5 a.m., the event will kick off with a bonfire as the sun rises. Find out more information from Canton’s official website.
June 27, 2015
This event provides summer fun on the Uncompahgre River. There will be live music, local food, educational programs and river races for kids and adults of all ages. A “Junk of the Unc” race challenges competitors to build a boat using scrap materials and race it along a half-mile course that includes whitewater rapids. Visit the festival website to find out more about RiverFest, which is presented by the Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership.
With these events and the ones in your own community, your June could be jam-packed with local fun. Get in touch with your community’s downtown partnership or chamber of commerce to find out what’s going on nearby – and don’t forget to find local fun wherever you travel.
