In honor of Community Banking Month, Local First Arizona is encouraging businesses and residents to move their money to local banks and credit unions during the month of April. Events and workshops throughout the month highlight the benefits of local banking, but few events may be as convincing as a screening of The Big Short. Released in 2015, it presents an inside look at the banking practices that led to the 2008 financial crisis. The annual Redbud Ride takes cyclists through some of the most beautiful parts of Kentucky, which is filled with blooming redbud trees this time of year. Four different routes, ranging from 24 miles to 100 miles, can accommodate both amateur and experienced cyclists. Riders and non-riders can come together for the festive celebrations before and after the ride, featuring local music and food. Chalk Walk and Chocolate Crawl

If the air smells sweeter this time of year, the wind is likely blowing from downtown Chillicothe. The Chalk Walk and Chocolate Crawl combines two local events for a day of family-friendly fun. Attendees eight years and older can participate by drawing a creative illustration from chalk on the sidewalks of downtown. A prize will be awarded to the drawing that raises the most money for downtown. Also, participating downtown merchants will offer free chocolate samples to anyone who purchases a collection box for $5. Now in its 10th year, the annual Chef’s Potluck in Charleston brings together local ingredients from dairy farmers, fishermen, ranchers and more.
