5 Main Street Events to Visit in January

Start your new year off with something sweet or savory, cold or warm—doesn’t matter, as long as it’s local. This month, Main Streets across the country will host their first events of the new year, and they’re putting local flavors and pastimes front and center. From craft brews to homemade comfort food, these downtown events shouldn’t be missed.

Downtown Springfield Ice Invasion
January 17-20, 2020
Springfield, Massachusetts

You may have seen winter invade Massachusetts before, but you’ve never seen it look so artistic. For this annual event, more than a dozen ice sculptures will be on display throughout the downtown area. The Ice Invasion is expected to draw thousands of spectators, who can share their snaps and selfies with the artwork on Instagram with #BeDowntownSpringfield. Brews, Blues, Bourbon & BBQ

Stuart, Florida

The name of this event says it all: Enjoy local craft beers, wine, bourbon flights and cocktails, along with live blues music and BBQ. Admission is free, and kids are welcome. Winter Fest
January 24-25, 2020
Concord, New Hampshire

Celebrate winter with s’mores, hot cocoa and more during Winter Fest. This annual event will coincide with the local Black Ice Hockey Tournament and will feature ice carving demos, corn hole, relay races and other activities. Winter Fest is free and open to the public. Downtown Kalamazoo Chili Cook-Off

Warm up the season with the 15th annual chili cook-off in downtown Kalamazoo. This free, community event invites attendees to explore downtown shops and restaurants while tasting local chili recipes. Asheville Hot Chocolate Races

Asheville, North Carolina

Bundle up for the 13th annual Asheville Hot Chocolate Races, featuring a 5k, 10k, Kids Hill Climb and Marshmallow Dash. Every runner will get to enjoy a steaming cup of hot chocolate at the finish line thanks to the local chocolatier, French Broad Chocolates.
