It’s that time of year again: Independent We Stand kicks off the third annual America’s Main Streets Contest on Feb. 26. This year’s winner will receive a prize package that includes $25,000 cash and a variety of tools for downtown revitalization.
The America’s Main Streets Contest celebrates the work of downtown improvement districts, independent business associations and the like. Fans can nominate and vote for their local Main Street organization to give their community a chance at the grand prize. Here’s how it works:
- Nominations will be accepted online from Feb. 26 through April 22. Once a Main Street is nominated, fans can continue to vote for their organization throughout this period.
- Once this period ends, the top 25 Main Streets with the most votes will be recognized as quarterfinalists. Then, fans can vote to determine the top 10 semifinalists from April 30 through May 27.
- From the top 10 semifinalists, a panel of judges will choose the winning Main Street, to be announced on June 4.
In addition to $25,000 cash, the winning Main Street will receive a $1,000 STIHL outdoor power equipment certificate, a $500 Do it Best Corp. shopping spree, a $500 PPG Paints® shopping spree and recognition through public relations and social media promotion. These prizes come from Independent We Stand’s supportive sponsors, who, like Independent We Stand, are committed to keeping communities vibrant and prosperous through Main Street revitalization.
Past contest winners showcase the important impact that Main Street organizations have on their communities. Last year, MainStreet DeLand of DeLand, Florida, claimed the top prize, thanks to more than 30 years of community service and revitalization work in its historic city. In 2016, Downtown Lynden of Lynden, Washington, earned recognition for its work in helping the community to rebuild an iconic downtown building after a devastating fire.
In celebration of this valuable community impact, Independent We Stand will again recognize Main Streets across the country with the America’s Main Streets Contest. Learn more and vote now at www.mainstreetcontest.com.
