Buy local effort connects food growers, entrepreneurs

A buy local effort in Broward County is connecting locals within the food industry.

The Spice Quarter, a Fort Lauderdale store that sells herbs, spices and olive oils, plans to partner with students who run a vegetable garden in Dania Beach to come up with spice blends using dehydrated veggies.

Likewise, Lori Kupferman, who owns two vegan food trucks based in Fort Lauderdale, recently met a local farmer who offered fresh produce at competitive prices.

The connections came from meet-and-greets organized by Transforming Our Community’s Health — or TOUCH — an initiative run by Broward Regional Health Planning Council.
