Today, the Lynden Downtown Business Association (DBA) is preparing for a July 4th block party celebration to celebrate its status as the first ever, America's Main Streets Contest winner. The DBA came up with the idea of a block party to thank residents for their support during the three-month long contest.
The block party will take place on Front Street in Downtown Lynden, and the first 300 attendees will be welcomed with free food and a T-shirt. Attendees can also expect live music, line dancing, giveaways, and children’s activities, throughout the afternoon.
At 12 pm, PST, an award ceremony will be held, beginning with a city proclamation by the Mayor. Following the proclamation, a representative from the contests' presenting sponsor, STIHL Inc. will give a keynote speech, and Independent We Stand’s own co-founder will present Lynden DBA with $25,000. At this time, a representative from Lynden DBA will finally reveal their plans for the money and various prizes.
In addition to $25,000; which doubles Lynden DBA's annual budget, they will also receive: a $1,000 STIHL equipment certificate, to be redeemed at Washington Tractor in Lynden, a Tire Pros $500 certificate towards a set of Continental tires, a Do it Best Corp. $500 shopping spree, to be spent locally at Westside Building Supply, a PPG Pittsburgh Paints $500 shopping spree, to be spent at Lynden Paint and Flooring, and an Alignable social media “Neighborhood,” for Lynden's independent businesses to connect and network with surrounding communities.
