As the oldest presidential library in the country, the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library in Fremont, Ohio, was due for a fresh coat of paint. To commemorate the center’s 100th anniversary, the local community pitched in, bringing a fresh look to this historic landmark through coordinated revitalization efforts.
In January, Color Haven Paint & Supply, a local PPG Pittsburgh Paints dealer in Fremont, donated more than 100 gallons of paint to the presidential library’s renovation efforts. John Havens, founder of Color Haven, serves as a member of the presidential library’s development committee. The donation was part of PPG’s Paint for a Change initiative, which encourages local retailers to contribute to community revitalization efforts where they live and work.
With the donation, Havens wanted to create a more inviting and unique atmosphere for the center. The museum’s improved entrance, galleries, lobby and gift shop will feature shades like Candy Apple and Burgundy Wine from PPG’s Paint+Primer-In-One collection. All in all, it’s an innovative color scheme for the center, reaching beyond the traditional stark white walls that many similar museums rely on.
For its centennial celebration, the presidential library and accompanying museums will receive much more than a new color on the walls. A full overhaul is in the works, with upgrades to the facility and its exhibits continuing through May. To bring the renovation to life, the development committee raised more than $1 million and relied on the work of local volunteers and generous businesses, such as Color Haven.
Sometimes, it’s not the town that needs to be painted red, but just one specific facility. Thanks to the efforts of these volunteers and businesses, the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library will remain a treasured landmark in its Ohio community. For more information about Color Haven Paint & Supply, visit www.colorhaven.net.
