Each November, Small Business Saturday brings out millions of consumers in support of the various local businesses in their communities. From indie bookstores to specialty boutiques, the celebration benefits local brick-and-mortars of all kinds – not to mention the communities they serve. This year, the Small Business Saturday Coalition will bring local designers into the mix through a new partnership with Etsy, the popular online marketplace for unique, handcrafted goods.
As part of this year’s Small Business Saturday, which will take place on November 29, local merchants can host a trunk show with local Etsy designers. These designers produce one-of-a-kind goods ranging from handmade clothes and accessories to personalized home décor and furniture. They advertise and sell their goods online through the Etsy marketplace, but Small Business Saturday is an opportunity to work with them right in your community.
Hosting a trunk show with one of these designers is a great way to draw attention and traffic to your store on Small Business Saturday. You already know that consumers will be looking for unique gifts to complete their holiday shopping lists, and they’ll be turning specifically to small businesses like yours to find them. Offer them the chance to browse your store and discover a one-of-a-kind collection from an Etsy designer with a special trunk show.
Here’s how to plan your trunk show:
- First, sign up for Etsy Wholesale. Etsy Wholesale is a marketplace designed specifically for retailers, so they can order goods from local Etsy designers to be sold in their brick-and-mortar stores. Sign up at www.etsy.me/SBS and use the VIP code Amex SBS to register.
- Find a local Etsy designer. To connect with Etsy designers in your area, visit www.etsy.com/localsearch. Find a designer whose products you’d like to feature in your store and reach out to him or her about coordinating a trunk show.
- Complete the trunk show enrollment form. Once you’ve joined Etsy Wholesale and found a designer, register your event with Small Business Saturday using the trunk show enrollment form. A form will be emailed to you once you’ve been accepted to Etsy Wholesale.
Local merchants who register their trunk show with the Small Business Saturday Coalition will receive a free trunk show kit with supplies to help you make the event a success. Each kit includes a $25 Etsy gift card, two $25 American Express Shop Small Reward Cards and other promotional materials.
This year, local businesses and local artisans can work together to make Small Business Saturday a success for all. Plan your trunk show today to make new connections in the community and draw new support to your store on November 29.
