Handyman Hardware Wins Outstanding Florida Main Street Business Award

Florida may be the Sunshine State because of the tropical weather, but it’s small businesses and Main Streets that truly keep Florida communities vibrant. In support of those businesses and Main Street organizations, Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner recently announced a series of awards that celebrate superb small businesses, Main Street programs, local events and development projects throughout Florida. A Do it Best Corp. member with more than three decades’ worth of experience in the St. Cloud community, Handyman Hardware & Supply earned a Merit Award for Outstanding Florida Main Street Business of the Year.

Handyman Hardware Awards bookletHandyman Hardware boasts an inventory of more than 45,000 home improvement items, from building materials and paint to outdoor power equipment. Rick and Margaretjoy Heuser have owned and operated the locally owned business since 1984. Over the years, they’ve paid attention to what makes their store stand out.

“It’s certainly not hard to find a big-box hardware store in most communities these days, but what is often difficult to find is this: friendly, familiar faces; knowledge; great service; and extremely high-quality products,” the company says on its website.

Providing stellar customer service and infallible expertise has no doubt paid off. Shortly after receiving the Outstanding Florida Main Street Business award in August, Handyman Hardware in September weathered Hurricane Irma with its community. Employees worked long hours to unload trucks full of last-minute deliveries with much-needed supplies. Meanwhile, customers chipped in by offering up umbrellas to shade employees who were pumping propane for homeowners outdoors.

Handyman Hardware’s relationship with the community took center stage at the Florida Main Street Awards presentation in August. Florida has supported and celebrated its small businesses since at least 1985, when the state launched its Florida Main Street program. Since that time, Florida’s Main Street campaigns have created more than 24,000 jobs and produced $2.5 billion in reinvestment.

Come hurricane or high water, the St. Cloud community is in good hands with Handyman Hardware. For more information about Handyman Hardware, visit www.handyman-hardware.com.
