My grandfather opened a painting and interior design store in 1904. It employed 1000's of people over the 100 years it was open. Growing up I had an enormous sense of pride in all they accomplished. Having the host from This Old House to exclusively shop with us was one of the thrills. Sadly, the big box stores got into everyone's head that to save a dollar go to them. My dad shuttered the doors almost 20 years ago. My husband and I always talked about opening our own business and this does not happen to people, but I walked into the local bookstore and mentioned to the owner that I would love to own a bookstore. He emailed me and asked if I wanted to take over and 6 weeks later Page 158 Books was born. Now it would be a boring story if I told you how easy it was but truthfully it was hard. The first year I felt like a fraud. 2 years in we were forced to move-twice. The first move into a temp spot we had over 100 people volunteer to move us. We are now settled in a spot we own where there is parking, we partner with other businesses for bigger events and we can welcome everyone to our store. The best compliment was left in our suggestion box, " I have been all over the world and love coming to your store because of the vibe, the selection but most of all because the staff treats everyone so warmly and like friends." We hope to be here a long time
