From paint chips to rock chips, Jones Paint & Glass in St. George, Utah, keeps the community looking fresh. The independently owned PPG Paints dealer specializes in premium paint products and unmatched customer service. Around the holidays, though, the chips mean a little more.
In December, the St. George small business supports Coins for Kids, a local non-profit dedicated to providing Christmas gifts for disadvantaged children. When a customer makes a $20 donation (or more) to the charity, Jones Paint & Glass responds with a free rock-chip repair. Jones Paint & Glass donates all the labor and materials for the work, so 100 percent of the customer’s donation goes directly toward providing local children with a fulfilling holiday season.
“We’re trying to get kids taken care of for Christmas,” says Tom Daniels, a division manager at Jones Paint & Glass. “It makes everybody feel good.”
The store also works with the Marines and the Salvation Army to host a Toys for Tots drive during the holiday season. Coins for Kids and Toys for Tots share a mission that resonates with Jones Paint & Glass and benefits the most deserving members of the local community – its children.
The mission also resonates with the community at large, which is enthusiastically supportive of the annual campaigns.
“It’s a great opportunity to work in a community like St. George because the people here are really giving,” says Daniels. “They see the value of our store being open in the community and they see the value of taking care of people in the community. There is a very giving culture here, and we enjoy being part of that culture.”
Beyond the holidays, Jones Paint & Glass continues to participate in the giving culture. The small business donates paint, windows and doors for local Habitat for Humanity building projects and regularly works with members of the Boy Scouts of America on their Eagle Scout projects. The store has also donated materials to a local free clinic and a local shelter for victims of domestic and sexual abuse.
When charitable giving is part of the local culture, chipping in comes naturally. Jones Paint & Glass takes inspiration from the community for its year-round campaigns, which keeps this local business in tune with the needs and wants of the surrounding area.
