Lou Fusz Automotive, including a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Fiat dealership, has served the St. Louis area for more than 60 years. But the family-owned, third-generation local business has never been just about selling high-quality cars. At every step of the way, growing in business has also meant growing a connection with the community.
Whether it’s a donation to the Humane Society of Missouri or a check for the St. Louis Area Foodbank, Lou Fusz Automotive works to take care of those who can’t always take care of themselves. It also supports those who take care of the entire community. In first responders, Lou Fusz Automotive has found a meaningful customer base and a worthwhile cause for its charitable activities.
Lou Fusz gives back to first responders and their families by supporting a local group called The BackStoppers. The BackStoppers provides financial assistance to the families of first responders who have been killed or severely wounded in the line of duty. This includes providing health insurance, assisting with college tuition and offering a holiday gift to the spouses and children of police officers, firefighters, paramedics and EMTs who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The BackStoppers has supported more than 150 families since its inception in 1959, just a handful of years after Lou Fusz Automotive joined the community in 1952.
The locally owned car dealership helps to make The BackStoppers’ financial assistance possible by supporting its cause and fundraisers. For instance, in 2015, Lou Fusz Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Fiat gave $20,000 to its annual Guns ‘N Hoses campaign. Now in its 30th year, Guns ‘N Hoses is a charity boxing event that has become a holiday favorite around the St. Louis community – and around the Lou Fusz community.
“When something goes wrong in the community, first responders run toward the danger,” says Mike Benz, BusinessLink manager at Lou Fusz Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Fiat. “They risk their lives for the community. The least we can do is make sure they have the support and resources they need.”
Often, Lou Fusz Automotive stocks the very resources that first responders need. Through its VIP Police Vehicles program, Lou Fusz upfits vehicles according to first responders’ unique needs. Emergency response departments across the country consult the VIP Police Vehicles program for customized work vehicles, including Dodge Charger Pursuits and RAM 1500s, complete with state-of-the-art in-cabin technology.
When first responders and their families shop for cars of their own, Lou Fusz assists them through the First Responders Program. As part of the program, they are matched with a particular sales representative and eligible for exclusive savings. Then, their purchases benefit The BackStoppers organization.
Whether they’re shopping for a new car or putting themselves in the line of fire, first responders in the St. Louis area have an ally in Lou Fusz Automotive. For more information about this family-owned business, visit www.fusz.com.
