O’Leary Paint Gives the Community 125 Reasons to Celebrate

By Alex Gladu, Independent We Stand

For a local business, few things say success like a 125th anniversary. In 2016, Michigan-based PPG Pittsburgh Paints dealer O’Leary Paint is celebrating the historic milestone – with plenty of paint for the entire community. To mark 125 years in business, O’Leary Paint has promised 125 random acts of kindness in and around the community it has served for generations.

O’Leary Paint was established in 1891. That’s well before many of its big box and national chain competitors. For four generations, O’Leary Paint has remained a family-owned business, serving a wide range of customers from contractors to homeowners. Over time, the business has been recognized for its stellar products and its commitment to environmental friendliness.

It’s also worth recognizing O’Leary Paint for its commitment to the community, particularly during its 125th anniversary celebration. So far, the team has given back to local schools, charitable organizations and individuals – and the work has taken O’Leary Paint to several different communities in the western part of the state. In Lansing, the team cleaned up a green space along the Grand River. In Kalamazoo, O’Leary Paint bought new cleats for underprivileged teens on a high school football team. In Grand Rapids, the business donated gift cards to a fundraising event for a local art museum.

To carry out the acts of kindness, O’Leary Paint has relied on its industry expertise and its familiarity with the community. Some acts have involved donations or projects related to painting, while others have been unrelated to the building industry. For instance, the O’Leary team has donated painting supplies to a high school art program and collected cans to raise money for a track team.

O’Leary Paint’s 125 acts of kindness will continue throughout the anniversary celebration. In this way, the longtime local business will celebrate not just its history but also the customers and organizations that have made it so successful over time.
