Real Indie Story: Two Paws Up, Frederick, Md.

After adopting a black lab named Oliver, Allison Levitt discovered the need for an independent pet supply store in downtown Frederick, Md.  Today, that need is satisfied by Allison’s pet-friendly creation, Two Paws Up.

Since 2004, Two Paws Up has offered pet supply products and grooming services in Frederick’s historic downtown area.  The store only stocks American-made products from small manufacturers, giving it a unique collection of products that can’t be found on the shelves of its big box competitors.

As a locally owned operation through and through, Two Paws Up serves the community as more than just a specialty retailer. The company is involved in the Frederick Downtown Partnership, which promotes the array of independent stores and restaurants in Frederick’s historic center.  Two Paws Up contributes to the community-wide events organized by the Partnership and works with other local organizations to put on animal-friendly events like adoption drives.

“At Two Paws Up, we provide more than just goods for your dog and cat,” says owner Allison.  “We are here for our community, whether it is providing a high school student with a job or a donation to an animal rescue organization.”

Two Paws Up has also created a pet-friendly community in downtown Frederick.  Many business owners in the area now display signs in their windows to let shoppers know that their dogs are welcome in the shops, thanks to efforts by the dedicated team at Two Paws Up.  With Oliver as the store’s mascot, Two Paws Up serves the local Frederick community and continues to be “the doghouse even your cat will love.”
