While small businesses and eager shoppers are gearing up for the most anticipated shopping weekend of the year, there’s another group of independent retailers that will be making some noise this weekend, record stores!
Record Store Day, created in 2007, is a day dedicated to celebrating the unique culture that surrounds independent music stores and those that support them. With nearly 1,400 independently owned record stores across the nation, and thousands internationally, this music-driven day has spread to every continent except Antarctica!
This vinyl junkie’s dream day typically occurs in the spring, but in 2010 managers began promoting in conjunction with Black Friday, benefiting business owners and those dedicated fans and shoppers that hit the streets in search of great deals. Both dates offer special vinyl and CD releases, as well as various promotional products, all exclusively made for Record Store Day. In addition, many locations celebrate with performances, cook-outs, parties, parades and more! Visit recordstoreday.com to find participating locations near you. Also look for the Record Store Day Official Release List, which includes the titles available exclusively on Black Friday. In 2015, 60% of this list came from independent labels and distributors and still continues to grow.
Be sure to stop by a participating record store while doing your holiday shopping this Black Friday and Small Business Saturday to take advantage of some amazing deals and show your support for small businesses!
