Most of the time, the beauty of Main Street is that it’s just around the corner. For Independent We Stand, the beauty of Main Street is that it’s all over the country. On Monday, April 24, the IWS team set out on the Great American Rocky Mountain Road Trip, which will span five cities in five different states over the course of five days. The nearly 1,400-mile journey will take IWS far from around the corner, but the agenda is sure to keep things local.
The road trip is an annual tradition. Previous trips have taken the IWS team along Route 66, through the Deep South and even to the nation’s capital. We’ve visited a classic car show in Springfield, Missouri; we’ve eaten local seafood at Darwell’s Café in Long Beach, Mississippi; and we’ve even met part of the Santa Monica wildfire team in southern California. Each road trip is a chance to meet new people and support their local businesses.
Not to mention, the road trip is also an opportunity to highlight the America’s Main Streets contest. Semifinalist voting for the second-annual contest will begin on May 1 and continue through May 28. In the end, one winning Main Street will receive $25,000 in cash and related prizes, including a certificate for $1,000 in STIHL power equipment and one-year subscription with SnapRetail.
Like the contest, the annual road trip allows IWS to better serve and promote America’s Main Streets. After all, Main Street often creates a hub for local business and entrepreneurship and a convenient gathering place for local consumers. It’s important for consumers and communities alike to understand that Main Street and its businesses help to sustain the local economy.
Staying true to the buy-local mission, the IWS team will try to shop, eat, stay and play locally the entire way, with road trip stops planned at family-owned businesses and lodging arranged at historic, locally owned hotels. To find out exactly where the team is headed, you’ll have to follow along on social media. We’ll award prizes if you can guess the correct destination!
