The National Retail Federation just released their Valentine’s Day spending projections for 2013 and there’s expected to be a slight increase in sales over last year’s numbers. According to the survey conducted by BIGinsight, the average person is planning to spend $130.97 on gifts for their loved ones, reaching a total of $18.6 billion nationwide.*
Even with consumers being more conscious with their spending, imagine what an impact that money could make if it were spent locally at independent businesses. With Valentine’s Day quickly becoming one of the largest gift-giving holidays of the year, it is important to remember that more money stays in our local economy when spent locally. Find out exactly how much money stays in your community with our Valentine’s Day Impact Calculator.
So this year, when you’re purchasing presents for your sweetheart, consider shopping at locally owned flower shops, card shops, chocolate shops, gift shops, etc. (find one with our local business search). You get the picture, right? Don’t be a loser this Valentine’s Day – buy local!
